UrbanEyes recently completed a few assignments in Quannan including a masterplan for a township to host international mountaineering competitions as well as becoming a major tourism destination.
Planning for tourism destination is relatively straightforward, but mountaineering is very specialist subject and cannot be designed by any designer without the knowledge or experience in the sport. For this project, a seasoned rock climber was appointed to help deliver a professional masterplan. A bottom-up approach was taken to ensure the main and supporting mountaineering facilities are designed to international standard first and foremost. That provided the planning and design framework for the rest of the area, such as visitor attractions, accommodation, and commercial facilities.
Upon completion of the township masterplan, UrbanEyes were appointed to develop the marketing campaign to promote the forthcoming events, and again we had to integrate our knowledge and skills in creating a strong urban identity with product design and visual communication to ensure the event and tourist destination are attractive and successful.
